Virginia Giuffre, born Virginia Roberts, has provided some of the most detailed and consequential testimony in the Jeffrey Epstein sex-trafficking scandal. Her sworn accounts, particularly from a 2016 deposition in her defamation lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell, describe a systematic operation that allegedly exploited underage girls for the gratification of Epstein and his powerful associates. These statements, later unsealed in court documents, have shaped public understanding of the case and contributed to legal outcomes, including Maxwell’s 2021 conviction.

Giuffre testified that she was 16 years old in the summer of 2000 when Ghislaine Maxwell approached her at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, where she worked as a locker-room attendant. While reading a massage therapy book, Giuffre was offered what sounded like a legitimate opportunity: a job as a traveling masseuse for the billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein. Maxwell allegedly promised travel, education, and good pay. Instead, Giuffre described being groomed into sexual servitude.

In her deposition, Giuffre recounted her first encounter at Epstein’s Palm Beach mansion. Maxwell allegedly instructed her on performing a “massage” that quickly turned sexual, involving both Epstein and Maxwell. From there, Giuffre said she was trafficked for approximately two years (roughly 2000–2002) to Epstein’s properties in New York, New Mexico (Zorro Ranch), Palm Beach, Paris, and his private island, Little St. James, in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Flight logs supported her presence on Epstein’s jet, often with Maxwell.

Giuffre alleged she was directed to have sex with numerous high-profile men under the pretense of massages. She specifically named modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel, former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, and Britain’s Prince Andrew. Her testimony about Prince Andrew was particularly vivid. She claimed three sexual encounters: one in London at Maxwell’s home (where the now-famous photograph of her with Andrew and Maxwell was taken), one in New York, and one involving an orgy on Little St. James. Giuffre described details such as dancing at Tramp nightclub, Andrew’s heavy sweating, and specific conversations. Prince Andrew has repeatedly denied the allegations; the pair settled a civil lawsuit in 2022.

Beyond individual encounters, Giuffre portrayed a broader trafficking scheme. She testified that Epstein and Maxwell recruited young girls, often under 18, and passed them among associates. She said she was pressured to recruit others and witnessed group sexual activities. Giuffre distinguished between those she accused and others, such as former President Bill Clinton, whom she said she met on the island but never witnessed engaging in illegal acts.

Maxwell denied the claims, calling Giuffre a liar in her own deposition. However, Giuffre’s testimony aligned with patterns described by other victims, flight records, and evidence from investigations. Her accounts helped corroborate the existence of a sex-trafficking enterprise.

Giuffre’s words also highlighted the human cost. She described feeling like property, manipulated through money, promises, and implicit threats. The long-term trauma included shame, fear, and psychological damage that persisted for years. After leaving the network, she later became an advocate for trafficking victims.
