irginia Giuffre’s Epstein Testimony: A Cornerstone of the Scandal

Virginia Giuffre, born Virginia Roberts on August 9, 1983, emerged as one of the most significant survivors and accusers in the Jeffrey Epstein sex-trafficking case. Her sworn testimonies, particularly the April 2016 deposition in her defamation lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell (Giuffre v. Maxwell), delivered a detailed, firsthand account of grooming, sexual exploitation, and systematic trafficking. Court documents unsealed in waves through 2024 revealed the extent of her allegations, shining light on how Epstein and Maxwell allegedly operated a predatory network targeting underage girls for elite clients.

Giuffre alleged that in the summer of 2000, at age 16, she was working as a locker room attendant at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. While reading a massage therapy book, she was approached by Ghislaine Maxwell, who offered her a job as a traveling masseuse for financier Jeffrey Epstein. The opportunity seemed legitimate at first, promising travel and training. However, on the same day, she was taken to Epstein’s Palm Beach mansion. There, Maxwell allegedly instructed her on giving a massage that quickly turned into sexual activity involving Epstein, Maxwell, and Giuffre herself.

From roughly 1999 to 2002, Giuffre claimed she was trafficked to Epstein’s various properties, including his New York City townhouse, Palm Beach mansion, Zorro Ranch in New Mexico, Little St. James island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and a residence in Paris. In her testimony, she described being treated as Epstein’s “sex slave,” required to provide sexual services to him daily and to be “lent out” to his powerful associates. Epstein reportedly paid her for many encounters. She detailed flights on his private jet, nicknamed the “Lolita Express,” and witnessing the recruitment of other young girls.

A central part of her account involved Britain’s Prince Andrew. Giuffre alleged she was trafficked to him three times when she was 17, including a 2001 encounter in London. She recounted being introduced at Maxwell’s home, dancing with the prince at Tramp nightclub, and subsequent sexual activity. A photograph of Giuffre with Prince Andrew and Maxwell, taken by Epstein, became iconic evidence. Prince Andrew has consistently denied the claims. The two reached a civil settlement in 2022 for an undisclosed amount, with no admission of guilt.

Giuffre also named other prominent figures she was allegedly directed to have sex with, including modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel, hedge fund manager Glenn Dubin, and former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson. She portrayed Maxwell as the recruiter who normalized the abuse and Epstein as demanding constant sexual gratification. Staff awareness of the activities was evident, she testified.

Her credibility faced challenges. Maxwell called her a liar. Giuffre later withdrew an accusation against Alan Dershowitz, citing possible misidentification. Critics noted timeline inconsistencies, but many details were corroborated by flight logs, photographs, and other victims’ accounts, such as Johanna Sjoberg’s.

Giuffre’s courage kept the scandal in the spotlight, aiding Maxwell’s 2021 conviction and document releases. She founded Victims Refuse Silence (later SOAR) to support survivors. She died by suicide on April 25, 2025, at age 41 in Western Australia. Her posthumous memoir, Nobody’s Girl, published in October 2025, expanded on her experiences.

Virginia Giuffre’s testimony remains essential to understanding the Epstein scandal. It exposed how wealth and connections allegedly enabled exploitation while highlighting the resilience of survivors in seeking justice. Though Epstein died by suicide in 2019, her voice continues to advocate for accountability in sex-trafficking cases.
