Angelina Jolie – Hollywood’s Star Who Loves Peace
Angelina Jolie stands out as Hollywood’s most prominent star who has consistently championed peace, transforming her celebrity status into a powerful force for conflict resolution, humanitarian aid, and global harmony. While many actors focus solely on their careers, Jolie has used her fame to advocate for peace in some of the world’s most troubled regions, proving that true stardom can extend far beyond the silver screen.

Jolie’s love for peace emerged strongly in the early 2000s. After achieving massive success with films like Girl, Interrupted (for which she won an Oscar) and the Lara Croft series, she began shifting her focus toward humanitarian work. Her first major turning point came during the filming of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in Cambodia in 2000, where she witnessed the lasting scars of war, including landmines and poverty. This experience ignited her commitment to peacebuilding and support for victims of conflict.
In 2001, she was appointed UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and later became Special Envoy. Over more than two decades, she completed over 60 field missions to war-torn areas including Sierra Leone, Darfur, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Ukraine, and Burkina Faso. In these places, Jolie did not just observe — she listened to survivors, met with displaced families, and called for peaceful solutions to end violence and displacement. Her presence in refugee camps brought international attention to forgotten conflicts and emphasized the human cost of war.
One of her most significant contributions to peace is the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI), which she co-founded with former UK Foreign Secretary William Hague in 2012. The initiative works to end the use of rape as a weapon of war and supports survivors in rebuilding their lives. Jolie has spoken passionately at the United Nations Security Council and global summits, arguing that lasting peace is impossible without justice for victims of conflict-related violence. She firmly believes that protecting women and children is essential for sustainable peace.
Jolie has also used her platform to promote education as a tool for peace. Through the Education Cannot Wait fund and her own foundations, she has supported schooling for refugee children, helping break cycles of poverty and radicalization. Her directorial films, such as First They Killed My Father, portray the devastating impact of war on civilians and the importance of reconciliation.
Even after stepping down as UNHCR Special Envoy in 2022, Jolie continues her peace advocacy. She has visited Ukraine and the Rafah border area to support peace efforts and humanitarian access. Through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation and Maddox Foundation, she funds projects focused on community healing, environmental protection, and children’s rights — all vital elements of building peaceful societies.
What makes Angelina Jolie unique is her genuine dedication. She personally funds her missions, shares honest reflections in her writings, and uses her voice to challenge world leaders. In an industry often seen as glamorous and detached, she represents a Hollywood star who truly loves peace and works tirelessly to achieve it.
Angelina Jolie’s life shows that peace is not just the absence of war, but the presence of justice, education, and compassion. Through her actions, she inspires millions to believe that one person’s commitment can contribute to a more peaceful world.
