This occurred about a month after the March 2025 car crash incident that sparked widespread concern.

She had been living a relatively quiet life in that beachside region with her family for several years, focusing on raising her three children and continuing her advocacy work for sex-trafficking survivors through her organization (Speak Out, Act, Reclaim, or SOAR). After more than a decade in the global spotlight due to her role in exposing Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and her civil case against Prince Andrew (settled in 2022 with no admission of liability from him), she sought privacy away from the intense media scrutiny.

The “shocking twist” this week (referring to late March 2025) stemmed from her Instagram post on March 30, 2025. In it, she shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed with visible bruising and swelling, claiming a school bus had collided with her car at high speed (~110 km/h or 68 mph) on March 24 while she was slowing for a turn. She stated this had caused renal (kidney) failure, that doctors had given her only “four days to live” (later updating to three), and she was being transferred to a specialist urology hospital. She expressed heartbreak over her children and gratitude for support.

Despite recovering from the immediate effects of the crash (which her family said left her “banged up and bruised,” with her condition deteriorating later leading to hospitalization), the underlying struggles—lifelong trauma from alleged abuse and trafficking by Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, family issues (including reports of being prevented from seeing her children due to a restraining order or similar matters), and the cumulative mental health toll—proved overwhelming.
