No credible evidence supports the claim that Elon Musk privately promised Virginia Giuffre he would release Jeffrey Epstein’s files if he bought Twitter (now X), or that this alleged broken promise devastated her before her April 25, 2025, suicide.

The rumor stems from a public X exchange in late 2024/early 2025, where Giuffre messaged Musk about releasing files, and he responded positively but non-committally: “If I complete the purchase, the files will be released.” Journalist Tara Palmeri, on her August 2025 podcast, discussed Giuffre’s hope in Musk’s influence post-Trump election, but no private promise or direct betrayal is documented. Musk’s replies were public; Giuffre’s family has not alleged private assurances contributing to her death.
Musk acquired Twitter in October 2022 (pre-Giuffre death) and has not released Epstein files, citing legal constraints. No verified DMs or meetings exist. The claim appears amplified from Palmeri’s reporting into unsubstantiated narrative.
Giuffre’s memoir Nobody’s Girl (October 21, 2025) and family statements focus on systemic abuse, not Musk betrayal. Her suicide, ruled non-suspicious, stemmed from lifelong trauma.
