Seven former and current hosts—Jon Stewart, Trevor Noah, Hasan Minhaj, Roy Wood Jr., Desi Lydic, Jordan Klepper, and Michael Kosta—lined up shoulder to shoulder, dressed in plain black shirts, no ties, no jackets. The audience was instructed to remain seated and silent. No applause. No warm-up comic. The cameras rolled without fanfare.

Jon Stewart spoke first. “We are not here to joke tonight.” He held up a single copy of Nobody’s Girl by Virginia Giuffre. “This is the book Pam Bondi has never ac
