Jeffrey Edward Epstein, born in 1953 in Brooklyn, New York, rose from humble beginnings to become a mysterious multimillionaire financier whose life intersected with presidents, royalty, and billionaires—only to unravel amid accusations of systematically trafficking and abusing underage girls.

A talented mathematician who skipped grades in high school, Epstein attended Cooper Union and New York University but dropped out without a degree. In 1974, at age 21, he began teaching physics and math at the prestigious Dalton School in Manhattan, catering to children of the elite. Former students later recalled his inappropriate attention toward teenage girls, though no formal accusations emerged then.

Epstein’s financial career launched in 1976 when a student’s parent, impressed during a conference, connected him to Alan “Ace” Greenberg, CEO of Bear Stearns. Despite lacking formal qualifications, Epstein joined the investment bank, quickly rising to limited partner by 1980, advising wealthy clients on tax strategies. He left in 1981 amid rumors (which he denied) and founded his own firm, managing assets for billionaires like Leslie Wexner, from whom he derived much of his wealth through fees.

By the 1990s, Epstein owned lavish properties: a Manhattan mansion, Palm Beach estate, New Mexico ranch, and private Caribbean island. He cultivated an elite circle, socializing with former Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, Britain’s Prince Andrew, scientists, celebrities, and business tycoons. Flight logs show Clinton traveled on Epstein’s jet multiple times post-presidency; Trump flew several times in the 1990s and once called Epstein a “terrific guy.” Prince Andrew faced allegations (denied) of abuse via Epstein’s network.

Beneath the glamour lay depravity. In 2005, Palm Beach police investigated after a 14-year-old reported molestation. Probes revealed Epstein paid girls for “massages” escalating to sexual acts, recruiting others in a trafficking pyramid. A 2008 plea deal—criticized as lenient—saw him plead guilty to state prostitution charges, serving 13 months with work release.

Federal charges resurfaced in 2019: sex trafficking minors from 2002-2005. Arrested July 6 upon returning from France, Epstein died by suicide in jail on August 10, ruled a hanging. Ghislaine Maxwell, his associate, was convicted in 2021 of trafficking, sentenced to 20 years.

Recent unsealed files, including photos and logs, highlight associations without new charges against others. Epstein’s story exposes how wealth and connections allegedly shielded predation, leaving survivors seeking justice amid enduring questions.
