A DISCOVERY THAT DEFIES HISTORY
In the rolling hills of southern Italy, near the ancient town of Matera, archaeologists have uncovered something that challenges the very foundation of recorded history.
Deep beneath layers of volcanic ash and limestone, a team of Italian and French researchers has unearthed what appears to be the 2,000-year-old ruins of a vanished civilization—a city that, until now, existed only in fragments of myth.
