In the latest tranche of documents unsealed by the US Department of Justice as part of the ongoing Epstein investigations, a series of emails from 2001 have surfaced that shed further light on the ties between Jeffrey Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell and a figure widely believed to be Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew.

One particularly striking email, dated August 16, 2001, was sent from an account labeled “The Invisible Man” – a pseudonym linked in Epstein’s records to the “Duke of York.” The sender, signing off as “A,” writes from Balmoral Castle, the British royal family’s beloved summer residence in the Scottish Highlands. Describing the location as “Balmoral Summer Camp for the Royal Family,” the author complains of being “totally exhausted” from daily activities before casually inquiring: “How’s LA? Have you found me some new inappropriate friends?”

The tone is light and familiar, ending with “See ya A xxx.” Maxwell, then in Los Angeles, replies apologetically: “So sorry to disappoint you, however the truth must be told. I have only been able to find appropriate friends.” The exchange continues with the sender expressing mock dismay – “Distraught!” – and mentioning personal details, such as the recent death of a longtime valet and retirement from the Royal Navy, facts that align with Mountbatten-Windsor’s life at the time.

These emails are part of a broader release that includes correspondence discussing arrangements for “fun” and “discreet” introductions, including references to “girls” during an upcoming trip. While the documents do not explicitly prove wrongdoing, they underscore the close, informal relationship between the royal figure and Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking in connection with Epstein’s crimes.

Mountbatten-Windsor has long faced scrutiny over his association with Epstein, introduced to the financier by Maxwell in 1999. He settled a civil lawsuit with accuser Virginia Giuffre in 2022 without admitting liability and was stripped of his royal titles earlier this year. Representatives for Mountbatten-Windsor have been contacted for comment, and he has consistently denied any involvement in Epstein’s criminal activities or knowledge of them.

The unsealing of these files, amid a larger dump of thousands of pages, reignites questions about the extent of Epstein’s network among the elite. As more documents emerge in the coming weeks, public attention remains fixed on what further revelations might surface regarding one of the most infamous scandals of recent decades.
