In the December 2025 releases of Jeffrey Epstein investigative files—part of ongoing disclosures under the Epstein Files Transparency Act—heavily redacted FBI emails from July 2019 revealed that agents were actively pursuing approximately 10 potential “co-conspirators” just days after Epstein’s July 6 arrest on federal sex-trafficking charges.

A July 7 email from the FBI’s New York office requested an “update on the status of the 10 CO conspirators,” while follow-ups detailed efforts to locate and serve grand jury subpoenas on individuals across states (e.g., three in Florida, one in Boston, one in New York City, one in Connecticut, and a “wealthy businessman in Ohio”).

Only three names were left unredacted: Ghislaine Maxwell (later arrested in 2020 and convicted in 2021 of sex trafficking), Jean-Luc Brunel (French modeling agent accused of scouting victims; died by suicide in custody in 2022), and Leslie Wexner (billionaire retail magnate and Epstein’s former primary client).

Wexner has consistently denied wrongdoing, stating he cooperated with investigators by providing background information and was never contacted again; his representatives emphasized he was neither a target nor co-conspirator.

Later documents referenced a seven-page memo on potential charges post-Epstein’s suicide and an 86-page update, but these were not released. Despite the early pursuit, no new federal charges have been filed against any uncharged individuals as of early 2026. Maxwell remains the only convicted co-conspirator beyond Epstein himself. The heavy redactions and lack of follow-up prosecutions have fueled criticism and calls for fuller transparency.
