In a bombshell revelation from her July 2025 prison interview with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, Ghislaine Maxwell quietly suggested that the late Princess Diana may have been deliberately set up as a potential romantic interest for Jeffrey Epstein. The transcripts and audio, released by the Department of Justice in August, capture Maxwell’s careful, evasive wording on Epstein’s early London connections—raising eyebrows about possible deeper ties to the British royal circle.

Maxwell, serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking, described how Epstein, before their relationship began in 1991, lived in London and mingled with “truly fancy people.” She specifically named Rosa Monckton—a close confidante of Diana’s and godmother to one of her daughters—as a key link. Monckton, now a baroness, and her husband, journalist Dominic Lawson, were part of Epstein’s social orbit.
Recounting one incident, Maxwell said Epstein attended a “big event” in London without her, organized by Monckton. “I don’t know if he sat with Diana or he met with Diana and he’d already met her. I don’t know, but this, I believe, was organized by Rosa,” she stated. Then, in a loaded pause, she added: “I don’t know if she was being set up as a date for him, maybe because she… I don’t want to speak bad of Diana, but—I’m not going to do that.”
This hedging—implying a romantic setup while quickly backtracking—has fueled speculation. Maxwell’s timeline is muddled; she references events possibly in the early 2000s, yet Diana died in 1997. Critics, including victims’ advocates, dismiss her claims as self-serving, potentially aimed at currying favor amid pardon rumors.
No prior evidence confirms Epstein and Diana ever met romantically, though Epstein’s obsession with royalty is well-documented. Maxwell’s subtle suggestion paints Diana as unwittingly positioned in Epstein’s path, echoing longstanding questions about his elite network.
As the Epstein saga lingers, this quiet insinuation adds a chilling layer: how close did the disgraced financier’s web come to one of the world’s most beloved figures?
