A college dropout turned billionaire financier, Jeffrey Epstein built an empire mingling with presidents and princes while secretly trafficking underage girls for years.
Born in 1953 in Brooklyn, New York, Jeffrey Edward Epstein skipped grades and showed early promise in math and physics. Despite attending Cooper Union and NYU’s Courant Institute, he never earned a degree. In his early 20s, he landed a teaching job at the elite Dalton School in Manhattan, despite lacking credentials. There, connections led him to Wall Street: a student’s parent introduced him to Bear Stearns CEO Alan Greenberg, launching his finance career in 1976.

Epstein rose quickly at Bear Stearns, becoming a limited partner by 1980. He left in 1981 to start his own firms, eventually managing vast fortunes—primarily for billionaire Leslie Wexner of Victoria’s Secret fame, who granted him power of attorney. Epstein’s wealth, estimated in the hundreds of millions, funded luxurious properties: a Manhattan mansion, Palm Beach estate, New Mexico ranch, and private islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands, including Little St. James, dubbed “Pedophile Island” in allegations.
His elite circle included former Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, Britain’s Prince Andrew, scientists, celebrities, and billionaires. Flight logs show Clinton on Epstein’s private jet multiple times; photos capture him with Trump and Prince Andrew. Epstein donated to institutions and hosted lavish events, leveraging access for influence.
Beneath the glamour lay horror. From the 1990s onward, Epstein and accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell recruited and trafficked underage girls, often under the guise of massages, for sexual abuse at his properties. Victims described a pyramid scheme paying girls to recruit others. A 2008 Florida plea deal—criticized as lenient—resulted in minor charges. Federal charges in 2019 alleged trafficking dozens of minors.
Epstein died by suicide in jail on August 10, 2019, awaiting trial. Maxwell’s 2021 conviction for sex trafficking confirmed the operation’s scale. Epstein’s story exposes how wealth and connections shielded predation, leaving victims seeking justice amid enduring questions.
