Giuffre Family Vows to Press On After Andrew’s Detention in Epstein Probe

The loved ones of Virginia Giuffre have issued a measured yet resolute statement in the wake of the detention of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor—once known as Prince Andrew—by British authorities. The former royal was taken into custody on charges related to alleged misconduct in public office, tied to newly surfaced information connected to Jeffrey Epstein’s sex-trafficking activities. This marks a significant escalation in a scandal that has lingered for over two decades.

Speaking to CBS News and other media, Giuffre’s brother Sky Roberts and his wife Amanda described the arrest as a bittersweet turning point. They acknowledged a sense of validation for their late sister’s long struggle to hold powerful individuals accountable. In a joint family declaration, they noted that their “shattered hearts have found a glimmer of hope,” affirming the principle that “even those born into privilege must face consequences under the law.” The relatives extended gratitude to Thames Valley Police for pursuing the investigation and made a pointed remark that Andrew “was never truly a prince” in the moral sense that mattered to them.

Virginia Giuffre, who became one of the most prominent voices against Epstein and his associates, died by suicide in April 2025 at the age of 41. Her posthumously published memoir, Nobody’s Girl, laid bare the grooming, coercion, and repeated sexual abuse she said she suffered starting at age 16 after being recruited while working at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Among the most explosive claims were her accounts of being trafficked to Andrew on three occasions when she was still a teenager. One widely known image from 2001 shows the Duke of York with his arm around the then-17-year-old Giuffre, with Ghislaine Maxwell standing nearby.

Andrew has steadfastly denied any sexual involvement with Giuffre or any other underage individual. He settled her 2021 civil lawsuit out of court in early 2022 for an undisclosed sum, insisting the payment was not an admission of fault. He has also expressed remorse only for his past friendship with Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial.

While the family welcomed the U.K. development as evidence that justice systems can eventually act against high-profile figures, they voiced sharp disappointment over the perceived inaction in the United States. Sky Roberts observed that the British move represents meaningful advancement, yet it also underscores how much remains unfinished. “We have more work to do,” he said, encapsulating the family’s ongoing commitment to Virginia’s cause.

The relatives stressed their intent to continue advocating for greater transparency around Epstein’s network, improved safeguards for trafficking victims, and reforms that prevent influential people from evading scrutiny. They view the arrest not as closure, but as a catalyst to demand broader accountability—both for those directly implicated and for institutions that allegedly enabled or ignored the abuse for years.

Giuffre’s story, they argue, is emblematic of countless others who never received the same platform to speak out. Her family remains determined to ensure her testimony continues to drive change long after her passing, refusing to let momentum stall despite this latest headline.
