Behind closed doors in the White House, a stunning contradiction emerges: President Trump, once Epstein’s Palm Beach neighbor and social ally, is quietly working to shield disgraced former royal Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from testifying before Congress about his infamous ties to the convicted sex trafficker.T

Sources close to the White House indicate that President Donald Trump has privately expressed opposition to congressional efforts to summon Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the disgraced former Prince Andrew, for testimony regarding his extensive connections to Jeffrey Epstein.

Democratic lawmakers on the House Oversight Committee have repeatedly called for Mountbatten-Windsor to appear voluntarily for a transcribed interview, citing his longstanding friendship with the late sex trafficker and allegations from victims like Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was trafficked to him as a minor—claims he has denied. In November 2025, top Democrat Rep. Robert Garcia sent a formal letter requesting his cooperation, emphasizing the need to uncover Epstein’s co-conspirators and enablers. Other Democrats, including Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Ro Khanna, intensified demands, suggesting remote testimony to shed light on the scandal.

However, insiders say Trump views such a move as unnecessary and potentially damaging to U.S.-U.K. relations, especially after publicly expressing sympathy for the British royal family amid Mountbatten-Windsor’s fall from grace. Trump stated in November that the situation was “tragic” and he felt “badly for the family” following King Charles III’s decision to strip his brother of royal titles and evict him from Royal Lodge.

Mountbatten-Windsor, now a private citizen, has consistently denied wrongdoing and settled a civil suit with Giuffre without admission of liability. Congress lacks power to compel foreign nationals, making any appearance unlikely. Recent Epstein file releases, including emails linking Mountbatten-Windsor to Ghislaine Maxwell, have renewed scrutiny, but Trump’s reported stance aligns with his past distancing from Epstein while avoiding escalation.

As bipartisan interest in Epstein probes wanes under Republican control, the former royal’s testimony remains a remote possibility.
