A viral storm erupted across social media in late November 2025 as a fabricated story claimed Attorney General Pam Bondi threatened a $50 million lawsuit against Mark Zuckerberg for “aiding slander” by allowing Virginia Giuffre’s memoir Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice to trend on Meta platforms. The hoax, originating from Vietnam-based fake news networks, used AI-generated text overlays on repurposed news clips to depict Bondi raging: “Zuckerberg’s platforms amplified lies about Epstein’s victims—$50 million or we shut it down.”
The post, shared by pages like “World Animals Daily” and “Life Stories Hub,” amassed over 10 million views before Meta removed it for violating community standards. It falsely alleged Bondi filed suit in federal court, citing defamation against “protected figures” named in Giuffre’s book. No such lawsuit exists; Bondi’s office called it “baseless fiction,” and Zuckerberg’s team labeled it “coordinated disinformation.”
Fact-checkers like Snopes and Lead Stories traced it to “Viet Spam” operations, using ElevenLabs voice cloning and Runway ML visuals. The claim preyed on real tensions—Bondi’s delays on Epstein file releases under the Transparency Act—but invented the Zuckerberg angle. Giuffre’s memoir, detailing her abuse by Epstein, Maxwell, and Prince Andrew, fueled legitimate scrutiny, but the hoax distorted it into partisan bait.
With 3.2 million shares before takedowns, the fake amplified distrust, underscoring AI’s 2025 misinformation surge. As December 19’s disclosure deadline neared, the fabricated storm highlighted survivors’ real fight: truth versus manufactured noise.
