A stunned world froze as Ghislaine Maxwell’s voice emerged from a newly released DOJ transcript on August 22, 2025, claiming Jeffrey Epstein may have been set up on a date with Princess Diana in the 1990s—though her timeline confused the early 2000s with Diana’s 1997 death.

In the two-day July interview with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, Maxwell speculated Epstein met Diana at a London event organized by her friend Rosa Monckton: “I don’t know if he sat with Diana or he met with Diana… I don’t know if she was being set up as a date for him, maybe because she was—I don’t want to speak bad of Diana.” She added there “may be photos,” but no evidence supports a meeting or date; Diana died in a Paris car crash on August 31, 1997.

Maxwell’s claim—part of her denials of a client list or blackmail—has been dismissed as unreliable given her perjury conviction and unclear chronology. Critics, including survivors, call it “rewriting history” amid her clemency speculation. No photos or corroboration exist; Epstein’s London ties predated Maxwell, but Diana connections remain unsubstantiated rumor.

The transcript, amid Epstein Files Transparency Act scrutiny, reignited outrage over elite complicity detailed in Virginia Giuffre’s Nobody’s Girl (October 21, 2025). With 3.5 million X posts (70% skeptical), Maxwell’s words—vague and contradictory—add intrigue but no proof to Epstein’s web.
