A stunned legal world froze as Alan Dershowitz, Jeffrey Epstein’s former lawyer once accused (then cleared) by Virginia Giuffre of abuse, broke his measured silence on her April 2025 suicide: “It’s tragic—she suffered much at Epstein’s hands.”

In a December 15, 2025, interview with The Times of Israel, Dershowitz, 87, addressed Giuffre’s death for the first time publicly. “Her suicide is tragic,” he said, voice subdued. “She suffered much at Epstein’s hands, and I feel for her family. But the allegations against me were false—proven so in court.” Giuffre withdrew her claim against Dershowitz in 2022, stating she “may have made a mistake” identifying him, after he sued for defamation.

Dershowitz, who helped negotiate Epstein’s 2008 plea deal, reiterated his denial of wrongdoing while expressing sympathy: “Epstein was a monster. His victims deserve compassion.” The comments, amid Epstein Files Transparency Act disclosures (deadline December 19), drew mixed reactions—some praising empathy, others criticizing timing after Giuffre’s memoir Nobody’s Girl (October 21, 2025) exposed elite complicity.

Giuffre’s family declined comment. Dershowitz’s measured tone—rare vulnerability from a fierce defender—underscored the scandal’s enduring pain, even as legal battles fade.
